Supervision

Develop your therapeutic skills through reflection and mentoring.

Individual or Group?
Individual supervision gives you time to work through the issues you want to bring and can feel very safe. Group supervision gives you a chance to be the observing eye, provides more perspectives and can be particularly helpful with tricky dynamics.
I have a wealth experience using both formats and am happy to be approached to offer a group or individual supervision. The fee is based on time not numbers, the maximum group size is 4.
Supervision of groups is also an area that I have extensive experience (ref Reformulation) having led, developed and supervised numerous therapeutic groups (hundreds), including groups focused on specific themes such as female survivors of sexual abuse, utilising different therapeutic approaches including interactive Yalom style psychotherapy groups, and groups utilising, CBT, CAT and DBT (Dialectical behaviour therapy) and in different settings, from inpatient wards to community bases.

Therapeutic Model
As well as offering Cognitive Analytic Therapy ( CAT ) supervision I am experienced in providing supervision to cognitive behaviour therapists who wish to use the process issues and draw on a wider range of therapeutic interventions. I work with process, using the therapist’s experience of the relationship, the therapeutic projections and transferences, to understand the unspoken dynamics; this focus is particularly helpful where therapies are feeling stuck or challenging. Currently I am developing my practice in compassionate mind based approaches.
I have supervised the following professional groups: Clinical Psychologists; Counselling Psychologists; Counsellors; Occupational Therapists; Mental Health Nurses; Physiotherapists (working in mental health); Psychiatrists; Social Workers; Cognitive Analytic Therapists; Cognitive-Behaviour Therapists.

Therapeutic Experience
I have worked extensively with complex, acute and severe mental health problems. Inevitably these included individuals who were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, psychosis but more often individuals experienced a co-morbidity of difficulties along with challenging social, family, economic and sometimes physical difficulties. Areas of work that I have less or no professional experience of include forensic settings, learning disabilities and children.
I have offered time-limited therapies and longer term therapies and brief interventions.
